About Medical Alert Wise

Medical Alert Wise is an independent publisher of plain-English guides about medical alert systems and home safety, written for adults in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond — and for the family members who help them decide.

How we research

Every guide starts from primary sources and links to them, so you can check our work. The ones we rely on most:

  • Providers' own plan terms, prices and equipment specifications
  • U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data on falls among older adults
  • National Institute on Aging (NIA)
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) guidance on 911 and cellular networks

Prices, rules and product details change, so each guide shows the date it was last updated, and we revisit guides when the facts move.

Who writes our guides

Guides are written and checked by the Medical Alert Wise editorial team. We are not doctors or an emergency service. A medical alert system is not a substitute for calling 911 in an emergency, and nothing here replaces advice from your doctor.

Our editorial policy explains how a guide is researched, checked and corrected.
